Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
1)Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is a technique to quantitatively assess "input resources" or "environmental loads discharged" through the life cycle of products (at all stages from resource extraction, manufacturing, usage, recycling, disposal through transportation) as well as resulting environmental impacts on the earth and ecosystem. Based on the results assessed with this technique, we aim to reduce environmental impacts of products.
The figure below is an example of CO2 emissions from POS terminals for volume retailers. The usage stage accounts for approx. 75% of total CO2 emissions.
As the power consumption during operation is large, we make efforts to reduce it. To assess environmental load items, CO2 emissions are used to calculate energy consumption.
