As part our efforts for social welfare contribution and waste reduction, we have garbage pails beside vending machines so that empty cans can be separately collected. Empty cans are donated to welfare institutions every quarter.

We increased the frequency of suburban clean-up activities from every other month to every week during the global environmental action period. With employee participation, we continued to promote environmental protection; preserving the scenery by cleaning up rivers near our factory and removing various forms of waste including plastic bags, foam, discarded garbage and vegetable waste that had flowed from upstream.

On April 22, Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions employees volunteered their time at a local park to help the environment. The event was part of Toshiba Group’s Global Environmental Action2014 , and marks Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions’ first environmental action since joining Toshiba. Employees worked to clean beautiful Lake Crabtree County Park, a 215-acre site with more than 16 miles of trails.

Objective: Plant trees on north side of property to serve as a buffer between our facility and the neighbors north of our property.

On April 22, in observance of Earth Day, Arbor Day, and in support of Toshiba's Fifth Environmental Action Plan, TABS-TPD planted (9) six foot Prairie Fire crabapple trees on the north side of our facility.

The Prairie Fire crabapple tree was chosen because of its ever-changing beauty. First, prolific, pinkish-red blooms. Next comes new purple-maroon foliage that matures to reddish green. Fall brings a display of red, orange and purple, and is accompanied by glossy red fruit. The fruit persists into fall and winter and provides food for birds. Our project was a complete success in that all 100 team members enthusiastically participated and with safety in mind.

In celebration of Earth Day 2014, TABS held a recycling event in its Irvine, California headquarters while collecting employees’ used electronics products. The event was held for dual reasons. No. 1, TABS wants to elevate awareness about the importance of properly recycling used electronics products while preventing the harmful materials in these products from entering the ground. The other purpose, of course, is to allow our employees to properly recycle their used electronics in a safe and easy manner. As a result of the event, more than a ton of used electronics was collected, which surpassed our expectations for the collection.

For Toshiba Group Global Environmental Action2014, P.T. TEC INDONESIA organized a Beach Cleaning Event on 27th April 2014 at Melayu Beach Barelang. In this event, Mr. Tetsu Oda as Managing Director of P.T. TEC INDONESIA attended with Mr. Stevanus Hermanto W. (AGM), Mr. Moh. Syahroni (AGM), Mr. Febri Rozi S. (AGM), Mr. Bambang Soeratno (Sr. Mgr), TEC Cycling Community and employees representative of each division. A total of 80.6 kg rubbish (food package, plastic bottle, general rubbish etc.) were collected in this activity and P.T. TEC INDONESIA plans to continue it in the future. The company's aim is to keep clean and green our earth for future generation.

Toshiba Tec Germany Imaging Systems GmbH, Toshiba Europe GmbH and Toshiba of Europe Limited Shared Service Center decided to donate money to a borehole rehabilitation project in Uganda. Instead of just paying money, the employees were asked to actively participate. It is a known fact that many people have unused equipment at home. Knowing this, we decided to make it easy for all employees and offered them to bring the e-waste to the office. This way they would not only be able to dispose of their e-waste, but at the same time also contribute to a good cause.
Why e-waste? E-waste contains material which can be recycled, thus saving natural resources. Water, too, is a natural resource and vital for life. However, in some parts of the world, access to clean water cannot be taken for granted. So by donating money for borehole rehabilitation based on kg of e-waste collected, the employees could not only save resources, but also save lives. In total, 5812kg of e-waste were collected!

On 22nd of May, for International Day of Biodiversity, we organized an open day on "industrial environment and biodiversity." TEIS target was to share TOSHIBA group commitment and TEIS ambitious actions plan on the Dieppe site to protect the environment.
During the morning we have received 144 young students aged 14-17 years and during the afternoon we received 117 representatives of French government local authorities and representatives persons of local industry.
During the two-hour visit, they have discovered on 14 points of presentation all actions undertaken by TEIS and 6 environmental partners.
