Response to climate change
We effectively use energy to reduce CO2 emissions associated with energy consumption.
Minimizing CO2 emissions due to energy consumption
We continue to reduce CO2 emissions through the systematic implementation of measures such as switching to LED lighting and upgrading to energy-saving equipment mainly at overseas sites by effectively using subsidy systems. Our multifaceted emission reduction initiatives also include the greening of rooftops and installation of solar panels.
The CO2 emissions factor of electricity in Japan was calculated using receiving end power data from the Electric Power Council for a Low Carbon Society, and the CO2 emissions factor of electricity in each country was calculated using receiving end power of WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol data in FY2009.

Approach by each site
At manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites in Japan and overseas, we are working to introduce renewable energy and switch to LED lighting.

Switching to LED lighting
We have systematically switched to LED lighting at all bases to promote energy saving.
Energy saving survey and LED lighting
Toshiba Tec Information Systems (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
We have chosen LED lighting based on the energy saving survey results.
Update of air conditioning and clean room chillers by using subsidies
Toshiba Tec Shizuoka Business Center (Mishima)
We achieved energy saving by using subsidies to update air conditioning and clean room chillers, and eventually reduced CO2 emissions.
Greening plant roofs
Toshiba Tec Information Systems (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
By greening the plant’s roof, we can prevent the temperature inside the building from rising too much, and are also helping to slow global warming through the reduction of CO2 emissions and other activities.
Prevention of air leakage from compressor pipes
Toshiba Tec Corporation, Shizuoka Business Center (Mishima)
Air leaks from compressor facilities and pipes can cause large amounts of wasteful energy to be consumed. In order to minimize this, we periodically use detectors to check for any air leakage from these sources.
Expansion of Carbon-Offset Programs
Toshiba Tec Germany Imaging Systems GmbH
The carbon-offset program is a system allowing users to take part in an environmental contribution project according to the amount of CO2 emitted from MFPs. We at Toshiba Tec Germany Imaging Systems GmbH have been expanding this carbon-offset program in European countries and working on the program since 2010, which started being provided to POS systems and bar code printers in the United Kingdom in 2009.
Minimizing CO2 emissions associated with product transportation
Transportation without packaging
In the setup center, we implemented transportation without packaging where products are transported in a ready-to-use state to reduce environmental impact in transportation and waste of transportation packaging.
We expanded the application of this method from delivery to specific customers using chartered trucks to small-lot mixed cargo transportation.
Small-lot mixed cargo transportation
We have realized "mixed cargo transportation" without packaging which is optimal for delivery to specialty stores.
