Particle Emission Characteristics of Office Printers on Health

TOSHIBA TEC CORPORATION always puts top priority on the customer's health and safety. Our products meet strict international health and safety standards. For example, materials used in our products and emissions from our products have been tested, and have met the "Blue Angel Mark" or "Eco Mark"(*1) standards. Both e-STUDIO350 and e-STUDIO450 models were tested and passed these standards.

Recently, Queensland University of Technology published a paper entitled "Particle Emission Characteristics of Office Printers." The paper purports to publish the results of a study conducted on submicrometer particles emitted from 62 printers in an office building in Brisbane, including e-STUDIO350 and e-STUDIO450.

The paper does not disclose the conditions of the printers nor some key methodologies of the study, making it impossible to verify the results, including the findings that 37 printers were non-emitters, 6 printers were low emitters, 2 printers were medium emitters and 17 printers were high emitters.

The research and investigation of ultrafine particle emission has recently become active, and measurement methods are under study. In order to protect our customers' health and safety, we will continue to research and develop our products while gathering information on the study of ultrafine particle emission under internationally-accepted scientific methods.

*1: These are standards that are widely recognized as being among the most stringent environmental certificate systems in the world on the basis of energy, emission and chemical substances.
